XML Sitemap

Postby hansfn » Sat Dec 05, 2009 2:40 pm

I just added an XML Sitemap extension to PivotX (in revision 2250). Sitemaps are an easy way for webmasters to inform search engines about pages on their sites that are available for crawling - read more on sitemaps.org. To use it either grab PivotX Latest from http://pivotx.net/files/unstable-development/ or download the extension separately from our SVN repository.

I have just enabled the sitemap extension, and added the following line to my .htaccess
Code: Select all
RewriteRule ^sitemap.xml$ index.php?xml_sitemap [L,QSA]

This didn't work.
I changed the line to
Code: Select all
RewriteRule ^sitemap\.xml$ index\.php?xml_sitemap [L,QSA]

and now it works.

Are you 110% sure about that? You are correct that "\." is more correct than "." (since a dot matches anything), but they really, really, really should have the same effect.

I really really really think I am absolutely really really really sure, since i tested it

No backslash gave a 404 error, adding the backslash gave the desired result.

OK. What version of Apache is your site running? As you probably know, I never write anything without testing it. (I'll update the XML sitemap docs, since your code is more correct anyway.)

ADDED:

I really, really hope that

Code: Select all
RewriteRule ^sitemap\.xml$ index.php?xml_sitemap [L,QSA]

works on your server (since the substitution isn't a regexp).

when submitting the XML sitemap to Google Webmaster tools, I get the following error:

Invalid date
An invalid date was found. Please fix the date or formatting before resubmitting.
Parent tag: url
Tag: lastmod
Value: 2009-12-30 17:44:52
Problem detected on: Jan 16, 2010

Any ideas how to solve this?

What version of the extension are you using? The one I have written only reports YYYY-MM-DD for "lastmod" - nothing more.

And please let me know which version of Apache your server is running.

Extension Version: 1.0.1

I don't know what Apache version my hosting service is running, I could not find any information on their website. Is there a nifty way to find out?
