oEmbed extension

This is the topic for the oEmbed extension.

With this extension you can easily embed videos and images from several sites.

Get the extension here: http://extensions.pivotx.net/?e=5

The install.html is missing from the docs dir, but I copied the extension to the extension directory and activated it.

However, when embedding a Youtube link, the video is not embedded but a hyperlinked text is shown:
"loading something from default"
- with an external link to the Youtube page.

That's not what I expected?

Am I doing something wrong?

Using Pivotx 2.1.0 beta 3, btw.

You don't happen to use the NoScript extension for Firefox (or something similar)? You need to allow http://oohembed.com/

PS! More funny is that the example URL in the docs - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EK2tWVj6lXw - isn't allowed in many countries: "This video contains content from Sony Music Entertainment. It is no longer available in your country. "

Not that I'm aware of. I currently use Chrome besides IE8 and FF, all with basically standard settings.

You need to allow http://oohembed.com/

Is this a user (visitor) setting (the extension would be sort of useless then) or a blog admin setting?

OK, maybe it's just that you are using a too old version of PivotX. Does my test work for you? If so, grab PivotX Latest from http://pivotx.net/files/unstable-development/

hmm.. need to find another rickroll for the docs then :) (that'll teach me to try to be funny)

anyway, 2.1.0 beta 3 should work...

If you see the message "loading something from default" it usually means the oEmbed provider is unknown to the script... in which case the default http://oohembed.com/oohembed/ will be used as a fallback.

Sometimes the resource you link to is unavailable to anonymous (ie. not logged in users of youtube) .. and then nothing will be returned from an oEmbed call.

If nothing is found then, nothing usefull will be shown, I'll probably need to work on that.

What resource did you try? (as hansfn mentioned, the classic rickroll in the readme is unavailable in some countries)

@Hans:
Test works fine, as it should. I guess Pivotx 2.1.0 b3 cannot be 'too old', since the latest stable release is 2.0.2?

@Jadwigo:
This was the resource link:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xac9Rnk9G-A

(It is also available for not logged in users).

Could it have something to do with the installation: do I have to set extra rights on the server somewhere?
(Remember: there is no install-doc so I only copied the extension into the extension dir ;-) )

Bye

I tried the same url without and with quotes - with quotes it worked [[embed url="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xac9Rnk9G-A"]] ... so the quotes are needed because smarty splits parameters on an "=" sign.

The missing install.html is an error in the docs, which I'll have to fix - just copying the extracted oembed directory to your extensions is the correct way.

For some extensions 2.1.0 b3 can be too old - some very practical new hooks and some function name changes are in the latest unstable

Still doesn't work for me, neither with nor without quotes...

So maybe the 2.1.0 b3 release may be too old indeed..

Why? If you read the comment/meta data section of snippet_oembed.php, you'll see "Required PivotX version: 2.1".

Anyway, why haven't you tried upgrade to PivotX Latest as I hinted? PivotX Latest is to become 2.1.0 beta5 or 2.1.0 RC so it's much better than 2.1.0 beta3.
