I don't want to spam the forum with all bonusfields updates, but this one grants an extra announcement.

Major bonusfields update. New version 1.14. New features:

* show fields only when certain categories/chapters are selected
* fill options lists (select/radio) with SQL statements or PHP-callbacks
* whilst not an ideal solution, adds hierarchical pages
* updated documentation, including examples

Thanks for the update Marcel! After about 5 years on Pivot and having it implemented on another website I have decided to use Bonusfields for my own site as well. :) Especially great for images I think, but there are some other uses as well. Should've started using it earlier.

To be nitpicking a bit: does anyone have experience with a Bonusfields image field and how it's possible to add an alt? Is this even possible?

If you didn't know already. An alt can only be added by adding another field and implementing it in the template. So the template would be like

<img src="[[$entry.extrafields.image]]" alt="[[$entry.extrafields.image_alt|escape]]" />

Just updated bonusfields. Besides some bugfixes it can also add a gallery imagefield now.

It's basically an improved gallery extension field. It can use the same data as the old extension (just name the field galleryimagelist), so it's backwards-compatible data-wise. You do need to implement the gallery using different tags (see the documentation) and you have to disable the old extension (otherwise you have 2 edits in the same entry/page editor).
You can however also choose a different name and choose if you want it to add to entries or pages only, etc, etc. All the regular bonusfields options are included.

To highlight some previous updates:
* you can add fields only when certain categories or chapters are selected
* hierarchal pages support
* programmers-only: you can fill select's or radio's with SQL statements or php-callbacks too

And another update 1.16:

[Smart add] can now add old-style 'galleries'. And now knows the difference between pages and entries.

[Edit bonusfield] button is now called [Add bonusfield] when adding a field.

Internal names cannot be empty anymore. You get a javascript alert and are focus()-ed to the field.

It is still not perfect. To use a Bonusfield of the type 'image', I have to use the following syntax in my entry template:
Code: Select all
<img src="/images/[[$entry.extrafields.nameofmyimagefield]]"  />

I don't think this is the way it's supposed to be. It should work like [[$entry.extrafields.nameofmyimagefield]] and nothing more, I think.
But who am I to say, I'm not a programmer. ;-)
Anyway, for the 'normal' user this is way to complicated. Thanks to the comments of Logfather and Hans in this threat I was put on the right track.
For the rest it's a very nice plugin of course.

Would it be possible to specify:

a) the height of a bonus field, in case of wysiwyg fields and especially Text area's? They take quite a lot of space, while sometimes only a small amount of text is inserted.

b) a maximum amount of characters that can be added to a Text area or Input text field? We use one field with with a maximum, it would be easier if this was physical restriction as well, so people don't have to count.

By the way, when we first used a input text field, that allowed users to paste the embed code of Youtube videos into the field, this worked well, but the content of the field seemed to have disappeared from the field on reopening. Switching to a text area field works well, but a input text field would look nicer in the interface because of the height thing.

I just installed the 1.17 version of this very useful plugin, but could you please list the changes in this thread, like you normally do?
Documentation is essential, you know. ;-)
Especially it's important to know if the following problems have been solved:
- bug with image field (see my posting above)
- large size of text field.
- text field does not align left properly on HD screens.

I've noticed a problem with the bonusfields extension:

I have it setup so I it adds a textfield to an entry, where I can paste a link to a related item, like

Code: Select all

It works fine, until I open the entry for editing. The text in the field then changes to

Code: Select all
(or something similar)

I've tried several different types in the bonusfields configuration, but to no avail...what's wrong?

Edit:solved...apparently you should not call your bonusfield 'link'.

It's a PivotX thing. 'link' is automatically filled with the link to the current entry/page.
