I've been pointed to this Pivot extension: require_pivot_login, but it doesn't seem to have been ported to PivotX, and not listed in pivot extension documentation.

Can anyone tell if this extension will be ported to PivotX? and whether this extension does what I want to do? I want to run a blog site, where people can request a login id. The administrator manually approves the id request. Then users need to log in to read blog content.

No, the extension isn't ported to PivotX. In PivotX there is a password extension that protects entries and pages. You can configure the password extension is it accepts users that are logged into PivotX. Another problem with your approach is that self-registration for PivotX accounts isn't supported anymore. Sorry.
