Google Calendar: Day settings wants to be wonky

Postby snooze » Wed Jan 26, 2011 9:55 pm

Hope this is just my tired old eyes and someone will set me straight.

I want to add the Day of the week to the calendar settings. When I add %dayname% or %weekday% in the format string, the variable definition shows and not the day.

Al the other date/time variables work as predefined. I have even change several to suit the formatting I want and the refreshed result is correct.

Whassamatter?

Those formatting tags are not described in the documentation. Are you sure these should work?

In two places in the configuration I am referred by link to:

http://book.pivotx.net/page/app-d

I just assumed that these would work for all date/time functions since others, i.e. start and end use them too.

%dname% and %ampm% don't work either. Wonder if there is a field or string length limit. ::grabbing::

Looking at the code all date formatting options should work when specified in parm format_date_start and format_date_end.
So maybe you could paste the exact code you are using? You can't specify them in any of the other parms.

snooze, maybe you should provide the code you are using. It's so much easier to fix a problem or help you if we see exactly what you do. (%dname% and %ampm% should definitely work.)

Code? Me? I just plug it in. Here's screenshots. This using %dname%; others display the same.

A screen shot is also illustrating. It's very clear what you do wrong. It's inside "Format for start/end date'" that you can use %dname% and so. In other words, "Format for start/end date'" specifies what "%date_start%"/"%date_end%" should be replaced with. Did that makes sense?

Not really.

I want a long date that reads, "Friday, January 28, 2011 - 7:00 PM"

How would that be set up?

The distinction is between day, which is Monday, Tuesday, etc and date, which would be 28, 29, etc.

I don't understand how you aren't getting this - did you even try? To spell it out:

The default values are:

Code: Select all
Output format:         <li><a href=\"%link%\">%title%</a> - <span class='date'>%date_start%-%date_end%</span></li>
Format for start date: %day%-%month%-'%ye% %hour24%:%minute%
Format for end date:   %hour24%:%minute%

And as you have read, you can use the standard PivotX date formatting options in format for start/end date - not in the output format.

So: To get something like "Friday, January 28, 2011 - 7:00 PM", you should use something like:

Code: Select all
Format for start date: %dayname%, %month% %ordday%, %year% - %hour12%:%minute% %ampm%
Format for end date:   %hour12%:%minute% %ampm%

I Got it, finally!!!

It's one variable sequence that defines input for another variable.

Thanks so much for your patience. I think I will work on a docs submission for this. I was a technical writer in a previous life.
