Andreas 3 - gravatar taking up comment space

Postby zoltanthegypsy » Sat Oct 15, 2011 2:20 pm

Hey,

I've looked around in the config and don't see a quick way to change this.

The Andreas 3 entry/comment template puts a gravatar next to the comment text. It causes the comment to be very skinny:

Is there a config button that would eliminate the gravatar or move it to above the comment text. Maybe it will require some hand editing. It's rather hard to read the skinny text as it is.

Thanks
Z.

You could edit the css to position the gravatar to your liking.

In entry_3column.tpl you'll find the code you have to edit if you that want to fiddle with the css.

Code: Select all
[[ comments ]]
    <div class="comment">
     %anchor%
     <img class="gravatar" src="%gravatar%" alt="%name%" />
     <div class="comment-text">
             %comment%
            <cite><strong>%name%</strong> %email% %url% - %date% %editlink%</cite>
     </div>
     </div>
[[ /comments ]]

You can either remove the <img> tag altogether (the gravatar will disappear) or put <div> tags around it (the gravatar will probably be displayed above the comment text.
Try to experiment................. ;)

I wasn't able to figure out how to eliminate the gravatar, get the comment to fill the full entry width, and maintain its background color - or more precisely, I wasn't able to do all three at the same time. I just don't understand this stuff well enough. Couldn't figure out what was setting the comment text field width.

My solution for now is to split the entries3 in default.css into two: one for the main page and one for the entry page. I think it increases readability for the comments and somewhat for the entry itself, but it isn't as "pretty". Comments and suggestions are very welcome on how this could be improved. Totally clueless here.

If you use webdeveloper for Firefox https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/web-developer/ then you can see what part of your page belongs to what css definition.
Remember that 3 columns means that the page is segmented into 3 columns...... So whenever a column is empty (in your previous sample I remember seeing the right column totally empty) or is shorter then another then the column normally not gets wider automagically.....

Removing the gravatar completely just involves removing the <img> tag:
Code: Select all
<img class="gravatar" src="%gravatar%" alt="%name%" />

Thanks for the webdeveloper tip.

All that happened when I removed the gravatar line was that the gravatar disappeared. The comment text field didn't flow left to use the available space.

Like I said, I'm clueless.

Thanks again,
Z.
