Backup = empty ZIP files

Postby PvC » Sun Jan 03, 2010 2:08 pm

I regularly backup configuration files + templates. Now I found out that the ZIP files it creates are completely empty. Seems a bit dangerous to me, since there's no warning or anything so it suggests the backup is OK.
Using 2.1.0.b1

Hi,

Some questions:

- Have the zips always been empty, or did this change, some time ago (or, have you never tried extracting them?)
- What type of server do you have? A link to a phpinfo.php output would be very useful.
- Are the files 0 bytes in size?

Hi Bob,

- as far as I can see, the files also were empty on previous backups. But I'm not completely sure about that, because I deleted older b/u copies after upgrading to pivotx. But with pivotx (2.0 and 2.1.0) they were empty. I must admin I never before tried to extract them ...
- here's php.info: http://www.vancooten.com/phpinfo.htm
- file size is 20kb (not 0)

additionally: BOTH the zips are empty: the config files as well as the templates zip.

Hope this helps,
Bye

If the files aren't 0 bytes, they contain at least _something_.. It might be wrong and broken, but it might also be an issue with the way you extract them.
Could you email me the two files? I'd like to take a look, and see if i can figure it out.

Actually, the automatic backups have always been empty for me too, having a size of 20kb-ish.

Wondered why I never mentioned that, I guess I just resorted to ftp download everything and forgot the issue.

Nothing gets backed up, configuration, template, entries, all empty zip files.

It is strange because other php scripts that uses the zip/unzip library works fine, so there must be something else here...

PivotX is using it's own Zip class - see modules/zip.lib.php - so that other PHP web apps work isn't really significant. Maybe give me FTP (and PivotX) access?

Thx for the FTP and PivotX access - bug fixed in revision 2303. (Grab PivotX Latest from http://pivotx.net/files/unstable-development/) The bug was that PHP 4 doesn't pass objects by reference by default. The weird thing is that we haven't gotten any other reports - I even ran PHP 4 myself for a long time ...

Thanks for checking and solving this!

Actually for me it was the same as Xzija reports: I regularly downloaded the ZIP for safety options, but never needed to check them (which is good, of course). And for some occasions depended on a full ftp-copy of the complete site.

I don't know if there's any actual relation but I think I have to mention this:

after applying the patch on my server, I noticed the weblog script completely 'hogged' my server, which became totally unresponsive.

I downgraded to earlier version (unfortunately losing the wzup and pivote count), after which the problem disappeared.
But this resulted in a "yellow card" from my provider because I ran a dangerous script. See below (it's dutch)

I guess I better wait for a stable version.
Please be careful when applying this patch, I think the server hog should be investigated?!

Addition: the problem seemed to start when I installed and tried Google Chrome. I cannot test that now because I'm afraid my ISP will disable my account when problems arise...
