Importing entries and pages from PivotX to Bolt

Postby gwbonline » Sun Nov 17, 2013 2:05 pm

Is it possible to import entries and pages from PivotX to Bolt? If not, when will this option be available? I'm a very enthousiastic PivotX user for years now and I'm still a newbie with Bolt. Someday I want to use Bolt for some project I have and things are a lot easier whem I can import from PivotX.

Yes, it is possible - there is working code. We just haven't written the documentation. I'll see if I can get it done this week (since this has value for me too).

At the other end of the spectrum: We've done some conversions using the "importWXR" extension for Bolt, and have imported the data from several Bolt sites without problem.

It would be nice if we had a working and documented set of extensions for both exporting and importing. :-)

Hi,

I've been experimenting with Bolt the last few months and I am seriously impressed with its capabilities and the progress that has been made :D

Now I am seriously considering migrating my PivotX site to Bolt using the importWXR extension. I'm trying to export my current Pivotx site to xml using the RSS feed mechanism but hit a few snags. My PivotX entries contain a few bonusfield fields : an image gallery and youtube variables, but none of these are exported in the rss feed.

I use this to export my entries http://effevee.dyndns.org:8001/?feed=rss&c=reizen&n=50
and this to export the comments http://effevee.dyndns.org:8001/?feed=rss&comm

Is it possible to include bonusfield content in rss ? If not, can you point me to alternate solutions ?

BTW, have upgraded to Bolt 1.4 and got an exception when trying the MenuEditor extension
Whoops \ Exception \ ErrorException
Class 'Symfony\Component\BrowserKit\Response' not found

/volume1/web/bolt/app/extensions/MenuEditor/extension.php

'contenttypes' => $contenttypes,
'taxonomys' => $taxonomys,
'menus' => $menus,
'writeLock' => $writeLock,
'backups' => $backups
));
return new Response($this->injectAssets($body));
}

Thought you would like to know.

Keep up the good work.

Hi,

There's a smalle extension for PivotX to export entries in WXR format. It's attached to this post.Try that to export from PivotX, and import the wxr file into Bolt.

I'm not sure if 'extrafields' can be imported, though.

Added 06.04.2015: The extension is available from our SVN repository

Bob,

Thanks for the extension but the bonusfields are'nt exported either. In fact the output is very similar to the rss feed.

Well it was worth a try.

I also am redesigning a PivotX site with Bolt. The current site has a ton of entries and pages that I would love to automagically import into Bolt. The pages aren't so much of a concern, as I can manually add those.

I have downloaded wpexport. However, I'm not sure how to prepare the PivotX site, nor what to do after to import the wxr files. Do I use the links provided by Effevee to individually import the entries and comments?

Or is there another method in the works?

Thank you.

Jult, if you mean by a big bad nothing that there's been no response to my question, then here is what I think:
    The Bolt staff are busy. (They work for a living on top of this.)
    It's the summer, and everyone needs a break to enjoy it.
    I am in no hurry, these guys do all of this for FREE.
    Eventually, I may just try the import, cross my fingers, hope for the best, and see what happens. (After I do a backup!)

If I do the latter, I will post what happened.

So, patience, Grasshopper. The Bolt Universe will provide.

Cheers

Just to let you all know: we are busy with this piece of code so it can be used to import into Bolt and WP.
Soon there will be a new version.
