Problem with weblog links - SOLVED

Postby jasonJM » Mon Aug 01, 2016 10:09 pm

Hello,

I have just discovered a problem with my website that appears to have sprung up recently. My blog was previously working fine but this morning when I went to access a post my website only took me to my homepage. Upon further investigation I discovered there appears to be a problem with the weblog entry links. For example, on my weblog page I have a post with the following link

http://www.argonautcyclecoaching.com/?e=103

When you click on this link the broswer then changes the url to

http://www.argonautcyclecoaching.com/index.php??e=103

The problem here is the double ?. Manually removing one of these corrects the problem and I can then find my blog post.

A few other things to note that may be relevant. Most of my blog posts were missing this morning so I logged in to pivotx and rebuilt the weblog. All of the missing posts then reappeared. I have also tried adjusting the link and hrefonly components in my templates to see if I can get the generated url to work correctly but to no avail.

If anyone has any advise on what might be causing this problem and how I can fix it then that would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

Jason

Your page links seem to work OK: http://www.argonautcyclecoaching.com/index.php?p=training-plans
But that is strange because a normal link should not include the index.php part.
So http://www.argonautcyclecoaching.com/?e=103 should be correct, and http://www.argonautcyclecoaching.com/index.php?e=103 should be wrong.
I checked my own flatfile testsite and that works correctly with 2.3.11.
I hope you didn't put your own rules in the .htaccess file?
And maybe the values for canonical host or pivotx_url in advanced configuration include the index.php part?
Another possibility is that there is something in the weblog settings for URL to weblog?
Quality is in the detail of things............

I dont have anything in the weblog url so that shouldnt be an issue.
I will check the canonical and pivotx url's now but I havent changed them since I created the website a few years ago so I doubt that is it.
htaccess did however get a change recently for some php error logging on my server. I will rollback that change and see if it corrects the problem.

PS: agree that the index.php appears to be the problem. I am pretty sure that it did not appear like this prior to the problem occuring. Hopefully the htaccess rollback does the trick.

Thanks

okay so now this is getting weird.

Canonical and Pivotx url's look fine
htaccess - rolled back changes but no luck in fixing the problem.

However, when I start playing with mod-rewrite in configuration (and advanced config) it appears to correct the problem. However its only because its not trying to modify the url, eg rather than changing the link from ?e=103 to http://www.argonautcyclecoaching.com/index.php??e=103

its showing the initial link in its full form as http://www.argonautcyclecoaching.com/ar ... lts-update

I think the key here is actually something above the weblog entries themselves as when I navigate to the homepage via www.argonautcyclecoaching.com the url immediately changes to http://www.argonautcyclecoaching.com/index.php?

I cant see anywhere within pivotx itself where this would be coming from so my guess its that it must be something to do with the htaccess file. I am going to check that out more thoroughly now but if you know of anything within pivotx that might be causing the index.php? to be added could you please let me know.

Thanks
Jason

Further to my last post, I just checked the functionality of my localserver copy of my site and its working perfectly. Exact same config and htaccess info. Something definitely funny going on with the live site!

So looks like this problem is limited to 1 computer in my house. Just logged in from my tablet and a different pc and its working fine. Got no idea what will have caused this but at least it doesnt appear to be affecting my live site.

This is always needed to get changes in a .htaccess active.
Glad that it works now!
