PivotX Name Clarification

Postby Kevin » Mon Nov 26, 2007 3:31 pm

There has been a fair bit of confusion as to what the latest version of Pivot will be called. Pivot X, PivotX, PivotX #.# and PivotX X#.# have all been used in the past week or so. Just to make it clear to everyone, we have decided that the new version will be called PivotX and when a version number is specified will be written as PivotX {version} {release state}.

So, as of this time, we welcome PivotX 2.0 alpha 1

But *why* the X? What does it stand for? What's the name of the software now? Is it Pivot, or PivotX? The logo still reads Pivot, also by default the site name of a new Pivot installation is "Pivot Powered".

The name of Pivot is being changed to PivotX and is effective on all version 2.x releases. PivotX was selected to give our product a more unique and identifiable name. In the ever expanding internet community a unique identity will allow our product to be found more easily using the various search tools available.

The logo on the forum will be changed today and the logo in our development releases will be changed before the next alpha release. After alpha 2 is released please bring to our attention any instances of the old naming convention that you find. :)

It makes sense, since just pivot is a term which for example can be confused with excel's pivot tables. ;)

I agree. Changing the name to a more distinct name make you more unique in the ever growing internet. Pivot is a bit to common these days.

Thanks for clarifying the new brand 8-)

I like the new name, it definitely signifies a new Pivot era. However, what Pivot can really use is an all new logo! Something with the 'P' and the 'X' for example. Anyone agrees? I don't have much inspiration right now, but who knows sometime this holiday :)

We are always happy to have a look at logo suggestions submitted by the community. Feel free to get creative and post to this thread.

I was toying with the idea of a twist on the popular prescription (Rx) logo like the one below. Maybe making it more PivotX'esque. ;) Then a slew of new tag lines could be reviewed. "Cure your ailing blog with PivotX". ;)
