Publication date, creation date

Postby verbaljam » Sun Jun 27, 2010 3:13 pm

I noticed that when I publish an article, that article takes the 'creation date' instead of the 'publication date'.
In my view that is not very logical and also confusing. The article should take the publication date. This also happens in newspapers, for instance.
It is confusing, because when you put articles on hold for a later publication date, the article still has the creation date.
Today I challenged reality by setting the publication date earlier than the creation date. ;-)

PS: I don't know if I used all the correct translations, because I use a Dutch dashboard interface.

I think you're right about the somewhat illogical preference for creation date.

Fortunately you can change it in your templates if you use the following code:
Code: Select all
[[ date format="%day% %month% %ye% - %hour24%:%minute%" date=$entry.publish_date ]]

If you want an article to be published at a specific time, use "Timed" publish and it will be created at the publication date, exactly. (The field "Publication date" shouldn't really be display if you don't select "Timed" publish.) However, what is a real problem is that the "creation date" is set to the time you start to edit the entry, and not the first time you post it ...

To display the last time you edited/update the entry:

Code: Select all
[[ date format="%day% %month% %ye% - %hour24%:%minute%" use=edit_date ]]

PS! This equivalent to

Code: Select all
[[ date format="%day% %month% %ye% - %hour24%:%minute%" date=$entry.edit_date ]]
