Roadmap of template system?

Just kind of wondering since we're using Smarty 2 right now, and the general reception of Smarty 3 is not great to say the least; what are the plans for the template system going forward?

Are we going to upgrade to Smarty 3 in the future or are we moving to some other system? Or even make template system into Plugins so we can choose between a few different ones?

In PivotX 3 the templating system will most likely be a module, so it's easily interchangeable. Smarty 3 and possibly Twig will be defaults.

I, personally, want to go to Smarty 3 because of the familiarity for current users. On the other hand: Twig is pretty sweet.

Px3 is still in the planning stages, so if you've a strong opinion on this matter, let's hear it.
