Minify problem

Postby mruwa1z » Fri May 10, 2013 4:55 pm

Hello.
I was testing my page speed using this tool https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/insights The page's speed score was 72/100, i've fixed probably everything i could including compression (minify) and came up with 87/100. Today I was editing few scripts and i have no idea what happened but when the minify option is ON those scripts aren't working. I have replaced files with the original .js' but nothing happened. Have you got any idea why?

EDIT:
Hmm... yesterday i have changed my php version from 5.3 to 6.0, is that possible that this is the problem? Changing back will take about 6 hours because i have to wait for the http server restart.

If you search the forum for minify you'll see that it sometimes just doesn't work...... (it's still experimental!)
You could only use minify in the backend (remember to clear the cache after every change) and check your results.
Maybe some of your scripts are already compiled as they are? If so that could break the process too.

Remember you can also improve your loading speed by adding settings to the .htaccess file.
Code like this (use Google for more explanation):
Code: Select all
<FilesMatch "\.(flv|gif|jpg|jpeg|png|ico|swf)$">
  Header set Cache-Control "max-age=2592000"
</FilesMatch>
Quality is in the detail of things............

Check this out http://tools.pingdom.com/fpt/#!/mMaNA5GsT/klinrap.com when the minify option is ON "The request got a 4XX, 5XX response or couldn’t be loaded" Is there any way to make it work? Or should i just turn it off? I have added these lines to .htacces
Code: Select all
<FilesMatch "\.(ico|pdf|flv|jpg|jpeg|png|gif|js|css|swf)$">
Header set Connection keep-alive
Header append Vary: Accept-Encoding
Header set Cache-Control "max-age=604800, public"
</FilesMatch>

I get a 95/100 when I do the test on your site. So is this with any minify option switched on?
As I said you could try to only switch on minify in the backend and leave the frontend option switched off.
If you experience problems again please describe which option is on and off (there are 5 in total on the dashboard for Cache settings).

Now minify is turned off. I don't use the other 4 options. http://gtmetrix.com/ says that i should compress scripts and i think the minify option is going to do that but when it is ON script's won't work. So i think i should just leave it.

It is the intention of minify on the front end that it compresses all your scripts into 1 big script. You have experienced that this gives different results.
Another option for you could be to compress your scripts yourself and use the compressed version.
There are a lot of online sites around that do the compressing for you.
Maybe you should check those out?

Harm, remember that there is a bug in our version of Minify - see revision 4245.

@mruwa1z: If you use the fixed version from the link above, you can use Minify.

I have replaced that file. Now the only script that doesn't work is the Nivo Slider, but why? That's weird.

You've cleared the cache? Tried another browser?
