Re: Media extension

I am currently working on the Clicky extension to enable this analytics service for PivotX weblogs.

Now there is also an option in Clicky to collect video statistics, i.e. how many users played the embedded video's on your site, how many seconds before their first pause and how many watched the video to completion without pausing. This works for youtube, vimeo, html5 video, and viddler.

This is a neat feature, but it requires to embed some changes to the way the youtube and vimeo calls are handled. I have made a few changes to the Media extension in snippet_media.php so it detects if the Clicky extension is enabled, and if so to add the necessary extra information.

I have made every effort to make sure that if the Clicky extension is not enabled, that there is no difference from the original Media appearance. The only other change I allowed me is to support the url change for vimeo videos (i.e. instead of http://vimeo.com/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=12345678 this is now http://vimeo.com/12345678, so now the way to pass this to swfobject changed slightly).

Now my request to the extension author: would you consider including this for an updated release of the Media extension?

Thanks for pointing this out. Unfortunately the way Fancybox handles the videos with the embed code is not going to work, since the video analytics capabilities require the video is embedded with swfobject so the youtube and vimeo API are enabled. I will look further into this, but it is not a simple change as with the Media extension and honestly my knowledge on this is rather limited (still).

As I have implemented those changes within Fancybox maybe I can help doing that?
Then you have to give me an example how the embed should be.

Hello,

i would like to use the media extension to show local flv videos.
By creating a new entry and pasting the following lines into the editor, the output link shows up with Byte Order Mark.

[[ video file="media/afraid.flv" ]]
[[ video url="http://example.org/video/afraid.flv" ]]

The video file can not be found because of the ending *.flv%EF%BB%BF

Is there any way to change the charset to UTF-8 or what will i have to do so the link shows up correctly.

Thank you!

PivotX is using UTF-8 everywhere so I'm very surprised to hear this. And I'm even more surprised to see the BOM right after the filename. Could you post a link your site so I can take a look? PivotX access would be even better ...

I don't know how it could happen, but when i restarted my pc today and tried to insert again the same video file it worked.
So i guess it was some strange problem on my side, not on your script.
Thank you again for your great support!
