Is this one still maintained? I have a new idea, for which I need a revolving slideshow with clickable pictures. I'm trying to decide between using Cycleshow or Slideshow. Any recommendations are welcome!

Slideshow is still maintained. I remember the main reason for me to look at Cycle and finally creating Cycleshow was that Slideshow cannot cope in a good way with pictures of different dimensions (portrait / landscape). If you want the images to be clickable and lead somewhere I think from these 2 only Cycleshow can offer that.

Last year I coded a custom extension for http://amsterdamcentraal.nl/ that does something with a slideshow and clickable prictures (see the top of the website). If you're interested, I can make the code available (although heavily customized for that website).

Hi Schop,

thanks for the offer? You mean the upper slide in the header? It looks really good.

Right now I've already choosen for Cycleshow, although I have no clue how to get this started. So, I'm interested in looking at your code for sure! Maybe send me a PM?

Hi,

I don't know how to tell slideshow which folder to use. I think it should look like:

Code: Select all
[[slideshow folder=" "]]

I have made a folder in: images/slideshow/targetfoldername
(name is irrelevant here) and uploaded pictures into this folder. When I specify the adress in the embed-tag, it says that it can't find the folder.

Any advice?

The documentation for the extension can be read through the widget part of Extensions.
If you activate the extension there is also an explanation in the configuration of all available parms.

The structure should be (if you want another location than the one you specified as default):
Code: Select all
[[ slideshow folder='testfolder/anotherfolder' ]]

Ah, now I got it. I got confused between the images-folder you approach via the CMS online and the images-folder you enter via FTP. MY bad.

Another question: it seems that through the standard configuration-page I'm not allowed to set the width any higher than 500px. How can I turn this off?

In widget_slideshow.php you'll find this code
Code: Select all
    $form->add( array(
        'type' => 'text',
        'name' => 'slideshow_width',
        'label' => __('Default width'),
        'value' => '',
        'error' => __('Error!'),
        'text' => "",
        'size' => 6,
        'isrequired' => 1,
        'validation' => 'integer|min=1|max=500'
    ));

You can change the max there; leave it out and there is no max. I think this max is only used for the config panel.
