Moving content to another local server

This is probably obvious, but how do I move the content from one pivotx site to a different server? I basically just want to move my existing site to another physical machine since I am retiring the one it is on currently. I tried just copying the folder and changing the host, but that gave me a 500 error. I notice that there is a backup content button, and I know if this were wordpress I could import that same content on the new machine, but I have not found the import button in pivotx. Any help is appreciated.

I think the back-up option is only meant for the files in the folders but I am not sure because I've not used that option.

I guess you never worried about creating backups before? Because then these things also come into play.

First transferring your set-up to another host (and when creating a backup) is dependent on what kind of install you have. MySQL or flat files?
If you have flat file then the necessary files will just transport with the normal file transfer. That's done through FTP. Most servers offer you FTP access. There are a lot of FTP programs around. I use Filezilla.
FTP access gives you the option to up- and download files. By using the last option you can make a full copy of all files on your current server.
Obviously you upload them on your other server to get the file copy.

For the MySQL content you need access to some SQL enviroment where you can create exports of the tables defined in your database of PivotX.
These exports can be imported again on the new server's SQL environment (first let PivotX create it just as if you are setting up a new install).

I guess some flat files copied (for example in db/cache) are not needed so potentially you need to reset those. Looks like you have to experiment somewhat.......

I think we're talking about a local server here, so it's not that complicated.

- if you're running on flat files, copy the whole directory in which your PivotX is installed to it's new location. Done.
- if you're running om MySQL, do the same. Then make an export of your database, and import it to a (new) database on the new server. Now go to the backend of your PivotX install, edit your database settings to the new database, done.

BTW, if you're not running on a local server, the procedure is pretty much the same.

Check the web server error log. Probably the new server doesn't allow a directive in one of the .htaccess files. (Just copying everything should work.)
