Index misses entries

Postby suaide » Wed Jul 11, 2012 3:11 am

Hi all

from time to time (once every 2-3 days) pivot is messing the index. Sometimes the index does not show a few entries than can vary from a few to more than 20 sometimes. It is like I have post 1, post 2, post 3 to post 50 and the index shows only post 1, post 11, post 12, etc, missing posts 2 to 10. I rebuild the index and everything comes to normal, until it breaks again.

I am using pivotx 2.3.2 with flat files DB.

Any idea?

Regards

Alex

You could try to install the latest version (2.3.3) but I have no idea whether that would help (you get other fixes ;) ).
Is there a lot of activity entry wise (new entries for example) that could trigger the problem? So if no new entries are created (or existing ones updated) the problem stays away longer?

I will try to update but...

Anyway, it is more common when there are activity in the site, such as new entries and pages or when editing a previous entry. But it also happens for no reason, although less frequent.

Updating will probably not help, but I of course recommend it

Problems with the flat file database is often related to disk issues: Running over your quota, disk slowness and so on. Most often the solution is to switch hoster, switch to MySQL database - or switch blogging software ;-)

Is there a tutorial on how to switch from flat files to mysql database?

I just updated to the most recent version and the problem is still there.

Best regards

Just use the import script and select the folder "db" as database dir. It will copy your entries from the flat file database to the MySQL database. Then you edit the database settings in the configuration.

Jus did it. It is running fine since yesterday and the index looks fine. I will post in a few days if the index problem gets fixed.

Hello all,

Just to let people know, in fact, changing from flat files to mysql fixed the index problem. My website is running fine for almost two weeks without broken indexes.

Thanks

Hi Hansfn,

I looked at the import script that you mentioned. I can't figure out how to transfer the flat file database to mysql database. Once I download that, am I supposed to unzip it? Then what do I do with it? Thank you.

You are supposed to unzip it and place it somewhere in your pivotx folder and then run it.
It contains documentation that tries to explain how to use it.
You first have to set up PivotX for MySQL usage and then import your old flat files into the database.
You can also look at http://book.pivotx.net/page/4-1 because importing flat file is the same as upgrading from old Pivot.
