Pagination comment list

Postby gwbonline » Thu Sep 09, 2010 9:27 am

I use the comment form of PivotX as a sort of guestbook (entry with comments). I now have more than 35 comments. Is it possible to use pagination for this? I don't want to have a long list with comments. What I like is a list of, say ten comments and below that a pagination function to see more comments.

I use PivotX 2.1.1

I received an email that said someone replied, but sadly I can't see the reply...

I also searched the forum for other questions about long lists of comments with some sort of pagination and found nothing. Maybe it's easy to do and I hope someone can tell me how.

The reply was probably spam.

I think this is easiest solved by doing the paging client side - use a Javascript pager. There are many options, but three jQuery plugins that come to mind are:
1) http://rikrikrik.com/jquery/pager/
2) SimplePager
3) The paging plugin of the Tablesorter. This assumes you use a table for the comments - which can work.

I'll take a look at the first two and hope this will work. Thanks.

I've used the second suggestion (SimplePager). This worked out very well. I now have a list of comments on several pages.

Maybe you could tell the other PivotX users exactly how you did it and if possible link to the guest book page showing how it worked.

I finally find out how SimplePager works. The first attempt it didn't worked out well. There were some minor problems. What you have to do is follow the instructions that are on the project website. It works with every element: div, img, li etc.

Exmaple:

One issue though: scroll down to the bottom of the page and then click on one of the numbers. You'll see the page scroll up a bit, so you have to scroll down again to use other numbers. The first gallery (on top of the page) does not have this effect. I don't know how to solve this.

Hansfn is currently reviewing my implementation of SimplePager. If all goes well it will become an extension.

That is nice!

But does this solve my 'issue' also?

Scroll down to the bottom of the page and then click on one of the numbers. You'll see the page scroll up a bit, so you have to scroll down again to use other numbers. The first gallery (on top of the page) does not have this effect. I don't know how to solve this.

I think so! One of the updates I made is correcting the href parm that should be used to reposition after clicking.
